Meet Our New Brewer
Hello Shotwell Run Brewing Company (SRBC) friends!
In case you haven’t heard, my name is John (left) and I am the new brewer here at SRBC. I would like to thank Hal (right) and Chris for letting me play around on the brew deck and begin making some fun and exciting brews. I have a lot of recipes in my head that I know you are going to like.
We are getting things started with a Hefeweizen which I have named “Counter Clock Weiz”. This inaugural brew is a traditional Hefeweizen using Pilsner, Wheat and Munich grains, and using 3 different types of hops: Mt. Hood, Magnum and Hallertauer Mittelfruh. It was the first time using the system and there was a bit of a learning curve but I think it came out pretty tasty. I certainly gained numerous insights for our upcoming brews.
A little about me: I am originally from Northern Virginia, Fairfax to be more precise. I was a big craft beer fan and home brewer, when I decided to get into the beer industry. I started out at Aslin Beer Co., cleaning kegs, then I ran the canning line and eventually ended up on the brew deck. My family and I moved to Roanoke where I worked for Constellation Brands Brewing, Funky Buddha and Two Lane Beers. We moved up to the Shenandoah Valley area where I worked for Bryant’s Cider and then joined the SRBC family. I have made 100’s of barrels of beer in my career and plan to make 100’s more. I look forward to meeting you all and if you have any suggestions or ideas let me know!
Cheers!
John
