ABOUT
Owners
The serendipitous meeting between Hal White, a fervent beer enthusiast with dreams of farm life, and Chris Wallin, a city girl with a taste for fine wines, marked the inception of an extraordinary journey. In 2009, they made an investment in a picturesque property in Madison County, Virginia.
Driven by a shared vision of establishing a farm winery, Hal and Chris embarked on the grape-planting journey on their property. Simultaneously, Billy, Hal's steadfast colleague and friend, an ardent home brewer, secured a property merely a mile down the road.
Recognizing the potential for something exceptional, Hal, Chris, Billy, and his wife Margrit united their passions to give rise to the Shotwell Run Brewing Company. This collective venture resulted in the creation of a shared Tasting and Tap Room, which warmly opened its doors on July 13, 2019, inviting enthusiasts to savor the unique offerings in a welcoming atmosphere.
After nearly five years of collaboration, Billy and Margrit have retired from Shotwell Run Brewing Co. However, the legacy lives on as Chris, Hal, and their son Harold continue to expertly manage the business, ensuring its ongoing success and commitment to quality.
Dogs
Merlin and Maggie, our two Shetland sheepdogs, greet everyone who enters the Tasting and Tap Room. Merlin’s coloring is “blue merle” and he is often mistaken for an Australian Shepherd. Merlin is an older gentleman approaching 16. His favorite hobbies are eating, retrieving cornhole bean bags, and rounding up the horseback riders. Maggie, our black and white sheltie, is much younger than Merlin and she possesses an enormous amount of energy. Maggie loves to play ball and run with the kids enjoying our wide open spaces. Both Maggie and Merlin are very friendly and love affection. Casey, our tri-color sheltie passed away (aged 14) in December of 2020.
